Privacy Policy
Character Migration (charactermigration.com) is a set of guide pages. You don't need an account, and we don't ask you to upload files. This policy explains what is collected when you visit.
Who is responsible
The site is run by CharacterMigration, which is the data controller for the information described here. Contact: support@charactermigration.com
What is collected and why
Delivering the site (Vercel). Our hosting provider, Vercel, processes standard request data—such as your IP address, approximate location derived from it, browser type, and the page requested—to deliver pages and keep the site secure. We rely on our legitimate interest in running a secure website.
Your region and consent choice. We set a cookie named cm_region (lasts one day) that records whether you are visiting from a region where we ask for consent before analytics, and we store your cookie choice in your browser's local storage as cm_consent (kept for 12 months, then we ask again). These are needed to respect your choice.
Analytics (Google Analytics 4), only with consent where required. If analytics are on, Google Analytics receives: the page address, title, and referring page; language and screen information; device and browser information; a pseudonymous browser identifier; approximate location; and the events we send—page views, clicks on links (which link and where on the page), and clicks on our “Request your export” button. Google receives your IP address to estimate location but says it does not log or store individual IP addresses for Google Analytics. Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_<ID>, which by default last up to 2 years unless you delete them. We use this to understand which guides help people; for visitors in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland we rely on your consent, and elsewhere on our legitimate interest in improving the site.
We don't collect your name or email address through the site, and we don't use analytics for advertising.
Consent and how to change it
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, analytics stay off unless you click “Accept” in the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer. If you withdraw consent, we stop analytics, delete the Google Analytics cookies on this site, and reload the page.
Who receives data
- Vercel Inc. (hosting) — Vercel privacy notice
- Google LLC (Google Analytics) — How Google uses information from sites that use its services
Both companies may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Their privacy notices describe the safeguards they use for international transfers.
How long data is kept
We set Google Analytics 4's user- and event-level data retention to 14 months. That setting doesn't apply to Google Analytics' standard aggregated reports. Cookie lifetimes are listed above. Vercel keeps request logs according to its own retention policy.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to its use, and to withdraw consent at any time. Because we don't know who you are, we usually can't link analytics data to you; the simplest way to stop analytics is “Cookie settings” or your browser's cookie controls. To make a request, email support@charactermigration.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
This site follows Character.AI's age rules. Its Terms of Service say you may not use Character.AI if you are under 13, or under 16 if you live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. Our guides are not directed to anyone below those ages, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, email support@charactermigration.com and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
We link to Character.AI, documentation sites, news reports, and browser extensions. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
